We were initially skeptical about diving headfirst into a completely dark dining experience, so we decided to start with a more accessible option offered locally by Fever.
This immersive event invites you to explore the art of dining while wearing a blindfold, which you can lift at any time.
What is the Concept Behind the Dining in the Dark Experience?
The whole point of dining in the dark is to heighten your other senses of taste, smell, and touch all while removing the influence of sight.
As you navigate your meal in this new kind of environment, you’re encouraged to guess the flavors and textures of the dishes presented to you, making each bite a mystery.
It’s an intriguing journey that invites you to appreciate your meal in a whole new light.
Or rather, in complete darkness.
If you and your partner are open to new experiences and curious about how your senses interact when one is removed, dining in the dark might just be the perfect unique date idea to try!
Things to Know About the Dining in the Dark Experience
Locations
While there are a ton of different Dining in the Dark locations, here are the two that are closest to my area.
Date, Time, and Pricing
The dates and times vary so go to the website to select your preference.
Baltimore, MD: 5:30pm/8:00pm
Washington, DC: 7:00pm
Note that you can make a reservation for up to 6 people and this experience is for ages 12+.
Ticket Pricing: $64
Note that drinks and tip are not included, and each guest is required to pay a $16 service charge at the end of the experience.
Selecting Entrees
There are three entrée selections:
Meats
Seafood
Vegetarian/Vegan
If you have allergies or there are things you don’t like, they will do substitutions for you.
For example, we are not a fan of coconut, so we made sure to include that when making our reservations.
What to Wear to Dining in the Dark
The requirement is to dress up semi-formal or business casual as you would for a more upscale dining experience.
However, since you will be blindfolded just know that occasional spilling may occur!
Dining in the Dark Wait Staff
Our dining experience was enhanced by the wonderful service provided by our waitress. She went above and beyond to make the evening memorable.
Throughout the event, she took photos and videos of us using our phones.
As long as our phones were on the table, it was understood that we had given our consent for her to capture the night’s special moments.
This allowed us to relive the evening in a unique way. The photos and videos she took, featuring us with blindfolds on, was so fun to see.
Having these photos was not only fun but also offered a new perspective on the experience!
Dining in the Dark Menu
We attended the event with another couple, and we all found ourselves in agreement that the food was, in a word, average.
While it wasn’t terrible by any means, it didn’t quite reach the heights we had hoped for.
However, some of the other diners at nearby tables seemed to love their meal which shows you will need to try this out for yourself.
One of the most engaging aspects of this experience was the interactive component with the chef.
After the meal, the chef came out to present the dishes and challenged us to guess the ingredients and flavors we had just tasted.
This unique twist added an element of fun and education to the evening. As for my personal performance in the guessing game—I got everything wrong!
Despite the mixed reviews on the food itself, the interactive and playful nature of the experience made it a memorable and enjoyable night out.
